Quality & Safety

The FPSI, was founded in 1998 by Rory S. McLaren, an accident investigator and reconstruction specialist with over two decades of experience as a hydraulics trainer. Since the mid-1980's, Rory has dedicated his expertise to creating awareness of the occupational safety risks of hydraulic fluid through comprehensive awareness and safety training programs.  The FSPI seeks to create strategic alliances for the promotion and implementation of safety programs through the certification of personnel within the industries utilizing fluid power. 

TU offers a wealth of information on safety training and online classes for a variety of industries.  Classes are offered at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.  Many classes address safe work practices for hydraulics and pneumatics and include information on preventative measures for safety hazards in the manufacturing workplace.

The NSC is an organization that is focused on preventing accidental injury and death by educating and influencing people to adopt and maintain safe and healthy practices and behaviors in all aspects of their life.  The organization offers Safety Training Programs, consulting and other services focused on accident and injury prevention.

OSHA aims to ensure worker safety and health in the United States by working with employers and employees to create better working environments.  Since its inception in 1971, OSHA has helped to cut workplace fatalities by more than 60 percent and occupational injury and illness rates by 40 percent.  OSHA administers a strong, fair and effective enforcement program which establishes the foundation to protect the safety and health of the nation's workers.

The ISO is a non-governmental organization comprised of a network of the national standards institutes of 157 countries that set standards of practice for specific industries.  ISO develops market-driven standards through world-wide consensus.  Between 1947 and today, ISO has published more than 16,000 International Standards.  ISO's work covers a range of industries that affect our daily lives; agriculture, construction, mechanical engineering, medical devices and information technology just to name a few.  ISO Standards, such as ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 are the most widely known and used international references for quality.  ISO Standards help organizations put systems in place to ensure product quality, compliance, workplace safety and continuous improvement.

The ASQ is the world's leading authority on quality.  With more than 100,000 individual and organizational members, this professional association advances learning, quality improvement, and knowledge exchange to improve business result and to create a better and safer workplace.  ASQ offers technology, concepts, tools and training to quality professionals and practitioners, as well as everyday consumers. The organization has formed strategic relationships with other non-profits and has made a strong global presence.  Since 1991, the ASQ has administered the United States' premier quality honor - the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which annually recognizes companies and organizations that have achieved performance excellence.

ANSI serves as a national clearinghouse and coordinating agency for standards that are implemented by a variety of different industries.  ANSI does not write standards, but adopts standards that have been drafted and reviewed by industrial and professional associations.

The ASTM develops and publishes, market-relevant technical information and international standards that are designed to promote quality through technological advances.

The ASME publishes codes and standards covering all aspects of mechanical engineering.

The NISO is a non-prifit association accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).  This organization is instrumental in identifying, developing, maintaining and publishing technical data standards which facilitate information exchanges in a digital environment.

UL was founded in 1894 as a chartered non-profit organization, to establish, maintain and operate laboratories for the examination and testing of devices, systems and materials to determine their relation to hazards to life and property.

Safety Online is the premier sourcing site for safety professionals who want to locate personal protection equipment or get the latest news on OSHA regulations.

Industry

ThomasNet offers the most comprehensive resource for industrial information, products, services, CAD drawings and more.  You can search for a specific Company, Brand Name or can locate a Product or Company by State.  ThomasNet also allows you to access a large Industrial Web to find just about anything.

GlobalSpec offers a powerful search engine that covers every conceivable industry.  Registration is free and easy and, as a registered member, you can receive news articles and product information geared toward your particular areas of interest.  Take the time to register, you will definitely find this site useful.

The Hydraulics & Pneumatics web site offers industry information on products, news and events.  Their Article Archive offers years of relevant information on a wide-variety of subjects dealing with Quality, Safety, Industry Trends, Engineering and New Products.

CRISP (Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects) is a searchable database of federally funded biomedical research projects conducted at universities, hospitals, and other research institutions. The database, maintained by the Office of Extramural Research at the National Institutes of Health, includes projects funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ), and Office of Assistant Secretary of Health (OASH). Users, including the public, can use the CRISP interface to search for scientific concepts, emerging trends and techniques, or identify specific projects and/or investigators. Below you will be able to access additional general information about the CRISP database, as well as obtain answers to questions frequently asked about CRISP. In addition, this home page serves as the gateway to interactive searching of Award Information.

NIOSH's r2p: Research To Practice is a new NIOSH initiative focused on the transfer and translation of research and findings, technologies, and information into highly effective prevention practices and products which are adopted in the workplace.  The goal of r2p is to reduce illness and injury by increasing workplace use of effective NIOSH and NIOSH-funded research findings.
